We’d love for you to join The Gamesmen in celebrating Episode 100 and toast to whatever the community selects as our Game of the Year, plus say farewell to Steve as he takes his leave from the world of podcasting! It should be a night of great fun and camaraderie!


 

OK, so here’s what we did. Each of the six Gamesmen submitted a “top 3″ from 2012. Any game that showed up at least twice was automatically nominated for the category. From there, the top remaining game on each list was also selected and made the final cutoff. Here are each of the individual lists:

Yep, you read right! We want your emailed topics for Episode 70 so we can play a special “listener mail” themed version of RPG. Here’s an example sent by our pal CPMatthew:

Greetings Gamesmen,

I really enjoyed your latest episode, the FFXIII primer. I never finished FFXIII. Some might say I never started it as I only played for 29 hours or so. LOLz. Anyway, your remarks about the evolution of the Mass Effect franchise to more action-oriented gameplay got me to wondering. What, in the qualified opinion of ones who play roles, must a game have to be called a “role-playing game.” Is it customizable equipment? Optional side quests? Optional companions? Stats to upgrade? Levels to grind?

What about the annual installment of any of the EASports games? Are you not playing the role of owner/gm/head coach for your vaunted Steelers every time you donate $60 to EA? So what it is it, o wise ones, that makes a game a role playing game?

What Would Make You/Made You Adopt 3D Gaming Technology?

OK, guys- I’m not gonna lie; since I got this new TV and experienced a good bit of 3D content, I’ve been wanting to do a show focused on the subject(since there isn’t a lot of coverage on it out there is the gaming sphere). So, here’s the question for Episode 67:

What would make you buy into 3D technology or, if you already have, what pushed you over the edge?

Mine was simple. I was in the market for a new set(semi-forcibly, but nonetheless) and new I HAD TO PLAY UNCHARTED 3 IN 3D. The good news is that it didn’t disappoint. We’ll be recording Saturday, January 7th, so get ‘em in!

What 2011 Game Would You Place In A Time Capsule?

Alright, listeners- here’s the topic for Episode 65 this week, so listen up:

If you could take one title from the 2011 release calendar and place it in a time capsule to best represent where the industry and our hobby is currently, which would it be? Remember- just because you would select it doesn’t necessarily equate it to be your “game of the year” candidate, but in my case, it is. Here’s mine:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword – I finally found the time to dig in and get some real quality time with Skyward Sword and, I gotta say, never did I imagine some of the things I’d experience. Nintendo has taken what they’ve learned by layering in mechanics from the Super Mario games along with the unique input methods of things like their DS platform, plus thrown in the best parts of Metroid Prime: Corruption and tied it all together neatly with a Wii Motion Plus bow. The motion control promise made 5 years ago has finally been fully realized.

So, there ya have it. What one game would be most influential in describing what gaming was this year to someone living in the year 2111? Have at it!

We Want Your Dragon Age Input For Our Two-Episode Blowout!

The Gamesmen are preparing as you read this to bring you, the listener, a one-stop-shop, Cliff’s Notes breakdown of Dragon Age: Origins and we want input from YOU! If you never intend to play the game, this two-part podcast will have you narratively up to steam just in time for Dragon Age II. If you’re one of the many who have indeed played and finished DA:O, your thoughts and/or impressions of the overall story would be crucial to us as we would like to incorporate them into the show notes! There are a few ways that you can get your voice heard:

This week, we will be discussing the six origin stories, then all of the way up to the resolution of the primary events in Redcliffe including Ostegar, Lothering and the Urn of Sacred Ashes. Orzammar, the Circle Tower, the Wending Wood, The Landsmeet and the final assault will come in two weeks.
